Letter From the Chancellor

Fall 2007

DU Chancellor Robert CoombeThank you for the trust you have placed in all of us at the University of Denver. DU provides the opportunity for students to become persons of value, of substance and depth. Our goal is to graduate extraordinary men and women who care about people, live their lives with integrity, and are committed to making a difference for society.

How do we do this? First, we do it together. Every student, faculty and staff member is an important part of the engaged and engaging community that is DU. All of us bring our minds and hearts, our intellectual curiosity, our values, our cultural heritages to the conversation. We exchange ideas in our classrooms and our residence halls, over coffee, on the green.

Second, we are constantly designing innovative programs and opportunities for students to grow.

  • The Marsico Initiative was established to foster innovative change to the undergraduate curriculum in disciplines of the Arts and Sciences.
  • The Cherrington Global Scholars Program ensures that all students have the opportunity to study abroad at no additional cost above regular tuition.
  • Our faculty members are recognized by their colleagues nationally for their teaching and scholarship, and are known by their students on campus as caring advisers and mentors.
  • Our state-of-the art facilities provide students with opportunities for small classes, cutting edge classroom technology, and innovative, comfortable, living spaces.
  • Our commitment to learning outside the classroom is enhanced by residential living and learning communities, a large array of student organizations, club sports, and cultural events too numerous to mention.

Finally, we embrace our partnership with one of the most vital cities in the United States. Our students are deeply involved in the City of Denver – in community service and research, urban studies, internships, social and cultural events, and in our spectacular Rocky Mountains.

We are deeply committed to our students and to our university, and we look forward to continuing a relationship with you throughout your student’s time at the University of Denver and long after graduation ceremonies!
